Tropics Update November 15

Hello everyone! Welcome back to the world of tropics. After a lull in activity, there are areas worldwide that need to be watched. Here is what you need to know.


North Atlantic

  • An area of interest in the Caribbean has its chances to develop into a tropical depression downgraded from 70% to 50% within the next 7 days. Regardless, heavy rainfall is expected from coastal parts of Central America to the Greater Antilles.

  • An area of interest near southern Florida has a 10% chance to form into a tropical depression within the next 7 days.

Western Pacific

  • The remnants of tropical depression 17W have a 40& chance to redevelop as it heads toward the Philippines.

  • Invest 97W has a 50% chance to form into a tropical depression within the next 7 days.

North Indian

  • Invest 94B, located in the Bay of Bengal, is less organized compared to yesterday, but it still has a 70% to become a tropical depression within the next few days.

South Pacific

  • Cyclone Mal peaked yesterday as a Category 1 storm with sustained winds of 90 mph (145 km/h). The system has passed Fiji and will quickly weaken over the next couple of days.
